Dipping my toe in 11gR2…

I’ve had my first play with 11gR2 today:

Nothing too unpredictable really.

I guess the most noticeable change is the new installer. I didn’t have an issue with the old installer, but a few friends from the Microsoft world had pointed out how dated it looked. The new is much cleaner, and although it will take some getting used to, I think it is a step in the right direction.

I’ve decided that I’m only going to do 64-bit installations from now on. I see little point doing the 32-bit installations, as I hope I will never work on one again. 🙂

Cheers

  1. Hello Tim,
I’m sure you also noticed that 11gR2 64-bits came without lib32 folder and 32-bits libraries, whereas previous version/release did.
It could be some serious issue with 32-bits application running against a 64-bits client on a 64-bits OS… till now, that was not a problem because of that lib32 directory existed.
However, I did not find anything about that, do you have some link to share, or did I miss something ?

  2. Hi.

Sorry, no insight on this. This was literally my first play with 11gR2 so at this time I know nothing about it other than how to install it on OEL5. 🙂

    Cheers

    Tim…
