Fedora 17 and Oracle 11gR2…

Fedora 17 was released yesterday. I mentioned in a previous post I had run through the installation of Oracle 11gR2 on Fedora 17 alpha. With the arrival of the final Fedora 17 release I ran through the articles again last night to make sure everything was OK. You can see the finished versions here:

As always, installing Oracle on Fedora 17 is just for fun and totally not supported. For anything proper you should be using Oracle Linux or RHEL.

Cheers

  1. Hi I have problem with fedora 17 and Oracle 11g. Do you have to enter your proxy during installation ? At 84% i had have an error:
    Error in invoking target ‘install’ of makefile ‘/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/ctx/lib/ins_ctx.mk’. See ‘/u01/app/oraInventory/logs/installActions2012-06-24_10-05-16PM.log’
    Thanks for any help

  2. Could I ask you to write me how to install oracle 11g step by step from new install fedora 17. I was trying almost everything and i am very tired i don’t know what to do. Thanks in advance

  3. I did everything from this article but it didn’t work. How important in this installation is network installation ?
    when i have to log in to oracle i simply log into user not from terminal because always i have got error with display
    DISPLAY=:0.0; export DISPLAY
    and i stared installation then i click next and it ask me for proxy

  4. Hi.

    If you log in as the “oracle” user on the console, you don’t need to worry about the DISPLAY setting. The installer needs an X Server and the display is set automatically if you are running from the console. If you are logged to the console using any user apart from “oracle”, or you are logged in via SSH and using a local X Server, then you *must* have DISPLAY set correctly.

    It’s much easier for me if you ask questions in the forum, not in these comments.
