Metadata backup of ASM diskgroup.

Postby sivakumarocp » Thu Oct 25, 2012 2:51 am

Hi Tim,

is it recommended to take metadata backup of ASM diskgroups more frequently?

i read in one oracle press book it says that ASM diskgroups are triple mirrored! but not sure how.

Hi.

The metadata backup essentially creates a script to rebuild all the disk group definitions. You only really need a new backup when you've made some configuration changes, like adding new disks, diskgroups, failure groups etc.

If you want to you can schedule a backup, but really, you only need one after major configuration changes.

Cheers
