Recovery scenarios

Postby sivakumarocp » Tue Nov 20, 2012 7:32 pm

Hi Tim,

if suppose we lost a database (target db doesnot exist) and it doesn't have recovery catalog but we only have the full backup and its archivelog
in this situation how do we recover the database? in 11g and prior 11g

2. how to restore archivelogs to filesystem, which was backedup using RMAN.

Hi.

Yes, you can do the restore. You have to add the backups to the catalog (a new DB catalog or the controlfile catalog), then RMAN will use them as normal.

You don't need to restore the archived redo logs. When you issue a recover command, any required archived redo logs are automatically restored from their backups.
