Functions/Features not supported in 11g

Postby me_lucky » Fri Dec 28, 2012 9:25 am

Hi Tim,

We have migrated from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g Database.
After migration, we found that te function in 10g is ‘wm_concat’is not working and it is replaced by ‘listagg’ in Oracle 11g.
Can you pl share any document or Link which documented about such deprecated functions in Oracle.

Thanks & Regards,
Lucky

Hi.

I can use WM_CONTACT in 11g. All the examples in this article run fine against 11g.

http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/mis ... niques.php

You will see no documents about deprecation of WM_CONCAT anywhere as it has never been a documented and supported function. It is part of the workspace manager functionality. Oracle has never said we can use it. Instead they recommend making your own string aggregation routine prior to 11g and LISTAGG.

Cheers

Dear Tim,

Thanks for the valuable information.

But i would like to know if there will be any oracle documentations which will give the information about unsupport features and function with upgraded version.
I found few documentaions which says about oracle DB level deprecated fuctionalities but not about sql/plsql depercations.

Can u pl tell me where i can get all such information from oracle documentations.

Thanks a lot again,
Lucky :-)

Hi.

The SQL Language Reference contains a section at the start of the manual called "What's New in the SQL Language Reference?". This lists the new features in the version, along with any deprecated features if they exist in that version. If nothing is listed, then nothing is deprecated in that version..

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/ser ... tm#sthref3

What it wont tell you is any features that have been deprecated/removed that were never documented and supported in the first place. This is the danger in using undocumented and unsupported features. Oracle have no incentive to tell you they have been removed as you were never meant to use them anyway.

As such, you will never see a deprecation notive for WM_CONCAT, since Oracle have never supported its use outside of their won internal code.

Cheers
