11.2.0.3 software license includes Grid software too?

Postby sivakumarocp » Wed Apr 03, 2013 5:27 am

Hi Tim,

I got into new environment, here their databases are running with 11.2.0.3 for this they got a license and they kept all the datafiles in the filesystem they didn't go for ASM.

I would like to know whether if we purchase 11.2.0.3 Enterprise edition does it include Grid software too or we need to get separate license for that?

I am asking this question, since I am not aware of the licensing part.

Hi.

I'm not totally sure what you are asking.

Does it include the Grid Infrastructure (GI) software? Well, SE includes RAC, so that requires GI, so not sure why you would think it was an EE feature.

Does it include Grid (Cloud) Control Software? Well, that is a separate product. Cloud control must be installed on an EE database, but that EE database does not have to be licensed separately, provided it is only used for a Cloud Control installations, and an RMAN catalog if you want it.

Can you be a bit more specific?

Cheers

I mean, my client got license for 11.2.0.3 version and they chosen filesystem as default storage for storing their DB files. (Enterprise Edition)
here they didn't install any Gird infrastructure (GI) software so only I am asking do we need separate license for GI on 11.2.0.3 version.

Hi.

No. The GI is part of the main license for SE and EE.

Hi.

Put an entry in tnsnames.ora file on the database server, then use that entry in the USING clause of the database link. That will work.
