Hi Tim,

You can only help me:-(

I have configured oracle database 11g(11.2.0.3) with ASM on linux5 with dataguard.
I have one primary and two standby. I have used the DB name as same for active and standby database and maintained different db_unique_name from standby database.

I,e.. my Primary database : ptest -- db_unique_name=ptest
Standby dtabase 1: stest -- db_unique_name=ptest
Standby dtabase 2: stest1 -- db_unique_name=ptest

My Dataguard configuration is :

DGMGRL> show configuration

Configuration - ptest

Protection Mode: MaxPerformance
Databases:
ptest - Primary database
stest - Physical standby database
stest1 - Physical standby database

Fast-Start Failover: DISABLED

Configuration Status:
SUCCESS

When i switchover to any of the standby database, am successfully able to switchover. But the problem is on the standby db after convertion as primary, when ever i execute any commands it throughs error (connected as installion user only):

SQL> select name from v$database;
select name from v$database
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00204: error in reading (block 1, # blocks 1) of control file
ORA-00202: control file: '+DATA/sdtest/controlfile/current.257.811004225'
ORA-15081: failed to submit an I/O operation to a disk

SQL> conn one_usr
Enter password:
ERROR:
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-01115: IO error reading block from file (block # )
ORA-01110: data file 3: '+DATA/sdtest/datafile/undotbs1.260.811004271'
ORA-15081: failed to submit an I/O operation to a disk
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 2
ORA-01115: IO error reading block from file (block # )
ORA-01110: data file 1: '+DATA/sdtest/datafile/system.258.811004245'
ORA-15081: failed to submit an I/O operation to a disk

Am not understanding why thses errors are comming.

Pl help me..

Thanks in advance,
Lucky

Hi.

The first thing that strikes me as odd is you have the same db_unique_name for all your databases. This is not what I would expect. I would expect everything to match except the db_unique_name, which would be different for each.

Questions:

1) Are you running any of these standby database on the same servers?
2) Are all of these standby's using the same ASM disc groups?

Cheers

Sorry Alot Tim.

Its a typo mistake. DB_name is same (ptest ) for all the 3 instance where as DB_UNIQUE_NAME IS different.
DB_UNIQUE_NAME DB_NAME
ptest - primary ---- ptest
stest - standby1 ---- ptest
stest1 - standby2 ---- ptest

1) No all 2 instance are on different servres
2) No, all these standby's are havig different disc groups on each server.

Hi.

That is very strange.

1) Make sure you are connecting to the database from a user that has the correct permissions. Part of the correct group.

2) Make sure the devices have the correct permissions. The ownership of the LUNs must be correct for ASM to access them.

3) Make sure the files are actually visible in ASM. Log in to the ASM (using the correct group) and check the names of your files are correct.

Cheers

Hi Tim,

1) Am connecting withOracle Installation user only
2)
Installation/File Premissions:

Node 1:

Grid Installation Owner : grid
Oracle Installation Owner : oracle

[root@test1 disks]# pwd
/dev/oracleasm/disks
[root@test1 disks]# ls -lrt
total 0
brw-rw---- 1 grid asmadmin 8, 17 Apr 5 14:38 CRSVOL1
brw-rw---- 1 grid asmadmin 8, 33 Apr 5 14:38 DATAVOL1
brw-rw---- 1 grid asmadmin 8, 49 Apr 5 14:38 FRAVOL1

Node 2:

Grid Installation Owner : grid
Oracle Installation Owner : oracle

[root@test2 disks]# pwd
/dev/oracleasm/disks
[root@test2 disks]# ls -lrt
total 0
brw-rw---- 1 grid asmadmin 8, 17 Apr 5 14:38 CRSVOL1
brw-rw---- 1 grid asmadmin 8, 33 Apr 5 14:38 DATAVOL1
brw-rw---- 1 grid asmadmin 8, 49 Apr 5 14:38 FRAVOL1

Node 3:

Grid Installation Owner : grid
Oracle Installation Owner : oracle

[root@test3 ~]# cd /dev/oracleasm/disks/
[root@test3 disks]# ls -lrt
total 0
brw-rw---- 1 grid asmadmin 8, 17 Apr 5 14:38 CRSVOL1
brw-rw---- 1 grid asmadmin 8, 33 Apr 5 14:38 DATAVOL1
brw-rw---- 1 grid asmadmin 8, 49 Apr 5 14:38 FRAVOL1

3) Files are visible in ASM on all the nodes.

Pl advice what else i have to look further.

Thanks & Regards.
Lucky.

Hi.

Looks like it's not one of the "obvious" issues. I think you should raise an SR with Oracle support and get them to take a look. In the mean time you can search MOS to see if there are any known issues with your version/platform.

I've certainly not seen any issues with storage problems after a switchover.

Cheers

Thanks a Tim.

I have gone through MOS, they says that such error will occure only when your trying to connect through sqlplus with other than installation user :-(

It aslo sounds me strange. Any ways i'l contact with Oracle support. And i'l let to know if i found any solution.

Thanks again,

Lucky :-)
