Duplicate commands

Postby jnrpeardba » Thu Jun 13, 2013 12:01 pm

Hi Tim,

Just a quick question about rman duplicate

At my previous site which had a logical standby if I wanted to perform an rman duplicate I would issue the following commands:

Code: Select all

duplicate target database for standby from active database nofilenamecheck;

And now at my new place which has a physical standby they seem to use the following for duplication:

Code: Select all

duplicate target database for standby dorecover nofilenamecheck;

Can you tell me what the difference is, if any

Many thanks,

Jnrpeardba

Hi.

An active duplicate doesn't use the conventional backup approach. Instead it does a stealth backup, transfers that to the destination server, then restores and recovers it. That is what you have been doing.

Prior to 11g, this was not possible. The only option was to duplicate using a backup. It is still a valid option now, as it puts less load on the primary server.

Cheers
