Current SCN

Really I am very happy with this forum:

Q. Current database scn is changing faster even though no application,no transaction is running. Database is idle but scn is changing continue, why? :(
17:25:00 SQL> select current_scn from v$database;
CURRENT_SCN
-----------
2477896
1 row selected.

17:25:09 SQL> /
CURRENT_SCN
-----------
2477898
1 row selected.

17:25:10 SQL> /
CURRENT_SCN
-----------
2477899
1 row selected.

17:25:10 SQL> /
CURRENT_SCN
-----------
2477900
1 row selected.

Hi.

The background processes are working constantly. Part of that involves writing information to a number of background tables. As a result, even an apparently idle database will be having transactions firing constantly and that will result in a change of SCN.

It can degrade the database performance If yes, It should not be. :D

Hi.

That's how the database works. Without it, the database wouldn't work, so asking about performance degradation is irrelevant.
