ORACLE DBA -New Starter

Postby dmiriy10 » Sun Aug 04, 2013 9:18 am

I am Dilip from Hyderabad. I am currently working as Mechanical Engineer from past 2.5 yrs. I am now looking to shift to Software field because of handsome salaries. I am now in a dilemma whether to learn ORACLE DBA or IBM AIX software course?

Is ORACLE DBA a programming language or ???????? As i am not aware of programming languages and if i choose programming it will be difficult for me as my background is Mechanical.

I heard that ORACLE DBA takes long time to learn and practical exp is a must, so as background with mechanical engineer, will i be fit if i opt for DBA? or

Do i need to choose IBM AIX Admin course?

Do i need to learn any other software courses like SQL in order to start ORACLE DBA? or just ORACLE DBA enough ?

I request some one to let me know which software course do i need to choose?

I have no idea what the job market in your area is like, or the number of jobs you can expect to find for a person with no experience. In the UK, it is very difficult to gat a job as a DBA or system administrator without at least 3 years of real experience!

A DBA is not a programmer, but experience as a programmer can be useful. I started work as a programmer, then moved into DBA work. A DBA looks after the database infrastructure, making sure it is installed and configured properly, so the developers can do their job. You can see my thoughts on the quickest way to becoming a DBA here: ... or-dba.php

Regarding AIX, once again, I have no idea what the job situation is for AIX system administrators in your country. Personally, if I were looking to become a system administrator, I would do the Red Hat Enterprise Linux certification. RHEL is very popular these days. You can read about the content of the two exams here: ... a_and_rhce

System administrator and database administrator (DBA) are very different jobs!
