SHARED SERVER & DEDICATED SERVER

Postby anilvvkumar » Sat Sep 28, 2013 8:06 am

Sir,

I am reading memory architecture topic UGA, I came to know that, it's existance is differnt in shared server architecture and dedicated server architecture. So I would like to know what is shared server and what is dedicated server. So I searched something about this, and in one article I found, we can find our server configuration in v$session. In that article in session table / view we may find out shared server and dedicated server both exist. Is it depend upon our session connection or our database configuration. I have a doubt that we can connect our instance or database with both modes such as shared server and dedicated server or we can configure our database only shared server or dedicated server.

I need some clarity on shared server & dedicated server. And what it is? How to configure it or how to connect in shared server mode or dedicated mode. Is it depend upon our session ? What is the relation between session & server mode i.e shared server or dedicated server mode.

Thanks in advance.

Hi.

It's in the concepts manual! I've already pointed you at this specific link.

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/ser ... htm#i16565

Yes, you can used both shared and dedicated server together. This section links through to the administrators guide, that explains how the configuration is done.

It's fine for you to search for explanations, but you should really start with the concepts manual, which will invariable link through to the other necessary manuals. Only after you've read all that should you look for other sources of information, that may or may not be correct. The Oracle documentation should *always* be your primary source of information.

The answer to all your questions are in there.

Cheers
