RMAN level 1 backup without level 0

Postby royalyogi » Thu Nov 21, 2013 2:49 pm

Can we perform RMAN level 1 backup without level 0 and what is behavior before 10.1 and on/after 10.1?

Hi.

If you do a level 1 backup and there is no associated level 0 backup, a level 0 backup is taken instead.

As far as I can remember, this has always been the case.

Cheers

Thanks Tim, If no associate level 0 backup and if we run incremental level 1 backup then it will take only changed blocks or all blocks.
If take only change blocks then how can we restore the database if crassed?

Hi.

If you read my previous post I wrote,

"If you do a level 1 backup and there is no associated level 0 backup, a level 0 backup is taken instead."

A level 0 backup is a full backup, so your question is irrelevant. You can never do a level 1 backup if no level 0 backup exists, as Oracle runs a level 0 backup instead. If you are going to ask questions, please read the answers! :)

Cheers
