created tablespace and user rmgr/rmgr in rcat db..granted recovery_catalog_owner role to rmgr..
now in another terminal i connectd to target database TEST through RMAN.. n gave the following command..
export oracle_sid=test
[oracle@oracle10g ~]$ rman target /

Recovery Manager: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Wed Apr 2 16:35:34 2014

Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.

connected to target database: ORCL (DBID=1236579095)
But it is showing as connected to orcl database....
i am sure there is some error over heree...

Hi.

1) Have you set up your environment variables correctly. You can only connect using "target /" if the ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME are set correctly. If you "echo $ORACLE_SID" I'm guessing it will say "ORCL"... :)

To fix this, use oraenv and when prompted, type the SID you want to use. It will set the path correctly using the contents of the "/etc/oratab" for the SID you've specified.

Code: Select all

$ . oraenv

2) I'm guessing either your username/password is not rmgr/rmgr, or the alias "rcat" in your $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora does not point to the database you think it does. :)

Cheers
