Change ASMSNMP Password

hi Tim,

When install Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.3

Step 9 of 13 is Specify ASM Password.

I always select "Use same passwords for these accounts", seems......
this will be created two +ASM account with same password, right ?

Inside +ASM, will have users:
SYS and
ASMSNMP
with same password


My question is

1. This +ASM SYS is another user independents to DB instance's SYS, right ?
2. When I want to change the ASMSNMP password, do I needed to change the +ASM 's SYS also in order to
make the passwd in syn.

3. How to change the ASMSNMP and ASM's SYS passwd?
~ Use EM -> ASM Page -> Users -> seems can change passwd for ASMSNMP and also SYS


4. Database Control (EM) will have problem or not if the ASMSNMP or SYS changed.

Hi.

0.5) Yes. There will be two totally independent users that happen to have the same password. This option just saves you from typing the same password multiple times. You get the same option when entering the password for the database installation if you remember.

1) Yes. ASM and DB have totally independent users. The SYS users in each are unrelated.

2) No. The users don't have to have the same passwords.

3) The password is changed by altering the passwordfile. Remember, the ASM instance doesn't have any datafiles of its own, so it can't store passwords internally. It only uses the passwordfie for this. See MOS Note. ID [452076.1] here: https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/art ... d=452076.1

4) EM uses preferred credentials to access the database and ASM instances. You typically have to enter database, ASM and host credentials for all the functionality to work. As long as you change the preferred credentials for the ASM instance, you should see no problem.

That means ASMSNMP and SYS also store in a single password file ?

and also want to confirm with you this:
~ Use EM -> ASM Page -> Users -> seems can change passwd for ASMSNMP and also SYS
Do you know whether EM really can change the ASMSNMP password or not?

hi Tim,

Just remember, when create passwd file, the first password is SYS password.
and use :

Code: Select all

CREATE USER TEST IDENTIFIED BY ******


this new user/password will be stored inside the passwd file for +ASM instance.


When I use EM to change ASM User Password, i found that the:
$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/orapw+ASM

will be updated!

But, i don't know how to test this password.
Cause i just create a new user for this +ASM and test it.

Not really sure why you did this. It has nothing to do with changing the password...

hi Tim,

It is ok, I use EM can also change ASMSNMP or SYS password in my +ASM,
the orapw+ASM will be updated too.

I can use EM "Preferred Credentials" to check the passwd is correct.


Why I needed to do this is prepare for changing all password when vendor pass the environment to me.
