Standby DG Cannot Perform Resync Catalog with RMAN

Postby mitchcagadas » Thu Jul 04, 2013 1:15 am

I have 2 databases, 1 as primary and 1 is a DG. Both are setup to perform RMAN backup over a catalog. Primary resync catalog works fine but DG resync throws an error. I am tempted to unregister/ register the database but i just want to recheck if I missed something here.
PRIMARY:

RMAN> resync catalog;

starting full resync of recovery catalog

DG:

Hi.

I'm not sure of the value proposition for backing up the primary and standby database???

If you have good backups of either the primary OR the standby, you can restore either from those. Personally, I would just backup the primary and leave the standby alone.

Cheers

Existing setup is, backed up eveything in DG via rman and clean up logs in rman. Issue was resolved when tried to flush shared_pool in DG because it results to snapshot too old error. Thus by doing so, DG can now connect to rman.

Hi.

OK. But back to my question, what is the value proposition for a backup of your standby?

Cheers
