Failed to create Oracle Cluster Registry configuration, rc 2

Postby 1982 » Mon Apr 07, 2014 4:07 pm

Hi Tim,

OS :- RHEL 5.4
DB :- 11.2.0.1
VMWARE WORKSTATION 7

HOST OS:- WINDOWS 7
Creating RAC1 AND RAC2 Machines and creating NFS on RAC1 machine

I am just following your blog http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g ... ng-nfs.php

The point where i stuck is during running root.sh script. Where on node 1 when i run root.sh script i am getting below error

Command return code of 255 (65280) from command: /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/bin/ocrconfig -upgrade oracle oinstall

Failed to create Oracle Cluster Registry configuration, rc 255

I checked 2-3 time to configure the storage as per the doc but still getting the problem.

Can you please help me out

And also one more doubt

I need to modify /etc/exports on both node or only on node

Please help me to understand as i am trying to configure RAC from long time and i follow your post 5-6 times but not getting any success.

Kindly help me over the same.

Thanks in advance

Hi.

Where is your NFS server? It sometimes causes problems if it is on one of the the RAC nodes. Better to have it on the host server, or on a separate VM acting as an NFS server only.

The "/etc/export" is only relevant to the server that is acting as the NFS server.

Cheers

Sorry for this question as i am new to RAC. I need your guidance to do these tasks. One question more how to configure SCAN if using ORACLE RAC with asm on 11gr2. As i goggled alot but not able to get clear picture to set single ip on etc/hosts and scan ip on dns server.

Can you please help me by providing the steps.. I really appreciate.

Hi.

Create a 3rd VM and on this create all your NFS exports. You can also install Dnamasq, so that this VM can act as the DNS server also.

I really don't do 11.2 RAC without a DNS for a proper SCAN...

Cheers

Thanks Tim for your help. My problem is sorted out What i did i follow your blog using NFS and instead of creating storage on node 1 i create storage on node 2 and it works. I successfully completed the grid as well as DB installation for 2 Node RAC.
