Oracle Weblogic Server.

Hi Friends and MR, Tim,
I hjave recently installed and configured Oracle 11g Fusion Midlle Mare with Weblogic Server and forms and reports AIX v6.1.
I handed over the details to my development team to start working on application development using Forms and reports 11g.
But i found out that weblogic server must be installed individually on each of the developers machine to make it work.
Can anyone tell me why this is a pre-requisite and what is the significance of this installation.

Hi.

Back in the old days of Forms 6i, the development was done on the client and the forms could be run in client-server or web mode. In later releases, only web mode was enabled and the forms developer came bundled with a "mini web server" to allow you to run your forms on the client machine.

From what you say, the latest versions do not bundle this mini web server anymore and require a local weblogic installation to allow the forms to be run for testing.

I've not set this up myself, so I can't comment on it really. Certainly sounds like they are making forms development difficult though.

Thank you for your reply Mr. Tim,
You have been of great help in my career as a dba.
My question is that everywhere i have read about it and even in the metalinks it says the this weblogic server is a pre requisite.
now i already have a weblogic server configured on my deployment server based on AIX.
If i configure the same for all my developers then it means i have to do atleast 20 separate installations where i have to configure the local weblogic serves to the deployment server and then install and configure the local middlware components to point to the local weblogic server which will in turn give connectivity to the deployment server. Now in all this i understand that all my developers will be facing memory issues ( as lot of people who implement this scenario complain that weblogic server is s memory hogger) .
Second point is that while installing and configuring the Fusion middle ware why cant i give directly the details of the deployment weblogic server as eventually it will connect to it and based on the fact that all the developers and the server are in the same physical network it will erase the need of one extra installation and would work the same way.
I hope i didnt make it too complicated.

Like I said, I've not done this with the latest versions of Forms, so I'm not in a position to comment. If the installation documents for the forms builder don't cover the setup, I suggest you open an SR with Oracle support and get the information from them.

You do need a local weblogic installation or the forms stuff will not install.
