Hi

I did start from the stratch.
GI installation and root.sh was successfull on both nodes.

During database installation, I have encountered below errors.
Have you ever experienced this ?
I did try two times from the scratch, unfortunately I hit the same error each time.

Code: Select all

PRCR-1079: Failed to start resource ora.rac.db
ORA-01092: Oracle instance terminated. Disconnection forced.
ORA-00704: bootsrat process failure
ORA-00704: bootsrat process failure
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-01578: Oracle data block corrupted (file#1,block #337)
ORA-01110: datafile 1: '+DATA/rac/datafile/system.256.777565859'
Process ID: 11394
Session ID: 1 Serial number:3

CRS-2674: Start of 'ora.rac.db' on 'rac2' failed
CRS-2632: There are no more servers to try to place resource 'ora.rac.db' on that would satisfy its placement polisy.

Hi.

It seems odd that this is another shared storage related issue. :(

Questions:

- What is you host OS?
- If you host OS is Linux, what file system is your host OS? (ext3, ext4)
- On your VMs, does the SATA Controller have the "Use host I/O cache" checkbox checked?

Cheers

Hi

Finally, I managed to install the database.
If I set oraenv to rac, I can not connect the database.
Is this expected ?

If I set oraenv as rac1 and change the oracle home, I can connect the rac database.

Code: Select all

[oracle@rac1 ~]$ ps -ef |grep pmon
oracle    5757     1  0 21:06 ?        00:00:01 asm_pmon_+ASM1
oracle    6364     1  0 21:07 ?        00:00:01 ora_pmon_rac1
oracle    7890  7857  0 21:57 pts/1    00:00:00 grep pmon

Code: Select all

[oracle@rac1 ~]$ cat /etc/oratab
+ASM1:/oracle/app/11.2.0/grid:N                                 # line added by Agent
rac:/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1:N                # line added by

Code: Select all

[oracle@rac1 ~]$ . oraenv
ORACLE_SID = [rac1] ? rac
The Oracle base for ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1 is /oracle/app/oracle

Hi.

That is to be expected. When you use oraenv you are assigning the ORACLE_SID, that is used when you connect to an instance. There are no instances called "rac", which is the database name. The instances that support the "rac" database are called "rac1" and "rac2", which is why you are forced to use "rac1" on the first node and "rac2" on the second node.

Cheers

Hi.

Exactly the same as a regular installation.

Don't try and clone existing nodes. You will probably screw up clusterware. Better to install new VM with OS from scratch.

Thanks Tim,

How about shared storage ?

Once I do fresh installation, how can I point new vm to existing shared storage ?

You attach the shared disks to the vm by adding the entries to .vmx file, the same way you did on the original VM.
