expdp/impdp

Postby baseballGuy » Tue Apr 03, 2012 4:41 pm

Hi Tim,

I have a full export file from 10.2.0.3 and I want to import to 11.2.0.2. Of course, when I do full import, several system object will fail b/c it can't import from the old version to the new version. questions:

1. can we do full impdp without sys and system?
2. do you have better approach than using using full expdp/impdp for the upgrade and migrate to different platform in one shot?
3. Schemas export would be cleaner; hwoever, we have to precreate all of the users, privs. etc......

Thoughts?
Thanks tim

Hi.

Given choice, I always do schema level imports. The errors and warnings from DB imports are typically not a problem, but I hate seeing them. :)

You can exclude SYS and SYSTEM if you like. That's what the EXCLUDE parameter is for. :) Doing this will cause you to lose objects owned by SYS, like directories.

Cheers

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the response as always. If the database has 500 users then schemas import only take care of the application, but not users. Do you think it's better if I do full import EXCLUDING sys, system, this way it take care the most part and I only have to worry about create the directories manually. Do you think import full excluding sys, system is better option? Is there anything I missed beside recreating the directories?

Hi.

Well, the first thing I would do is a run through and test it. You will quickly see if anything else is missing. I would expect the majority of things of interest would be in the individual schemas. You will probably want to exclude some of the other standard schemas also.

Cheers
