Libraries missing while installing Oracle 11.2g on Oracle Li

Postby sokol.ramaj » Sat Apr 14, 2012 6:39 pm

Hi,

i just installed oracle linux 6.2 and started to isntall Oracle 11.2g server.
so first i installed the yum install oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall
but when i run the prerequisite check on OUI it shows some libraries missing. the issue is that the libraries are installed but the version doesn't match.

ex: when i query rpm -q libaio it shows that i have installed libaio-0.3.107 but in OUI it shows that libaio-0.3.105 is missing.

is this normal or should i go and install also the previous versions of the missing libraries?

Hi.

If you are using OL6.2, the only certified version of the database is Oracle 11.2.0.3.0 or above. This is only available as a patch from My Oracle Support (MOS) (support.oracle.com). When using that against a fully updated OL6.2 host I got no prerequisite failures.

If you are trying to install a previous version of 11.2 (11.2.0.1 or 11.2.0.2) you will get prerequisite failures because they were never intended to be run on OL6. I have installed and run single instance 11.2.0.1 successfully on OL6, so the prerequisite failures are not a problem. Trying to use RAC on OL6 prior to 11.2.0.3 is a total fail.

Note. If this installation is for anything serious, you *must* use 11.2.0.3 or you will not be supported.

Cheers

Hi.

I think you misunderstood my post. If you are installing any RHEL6/OL6 version you need to use 11.2.0.3. It is the only supported released for RHEL6/OL6.

I did *not* mean that 6.2 was a problem, but 6.0 wouldn't be.... If it's version 6.x, it must be 11.2.0.3.

Cheers

You actually have newer version for your packages. If you choose to ignore the messages you will proceed without problems.

Hi.

As I mentioned in my first reply, the prerequisite failures are not a problem. Just remember, unless you are using 11.2.0.3 you do not have a supported installation on OL6.

As for your installation woes, it really comes down to reading the install guides for your version. If you follow what they suggest, it is really pretty simple. It's only when you try to cut corners things go wrong.

Cheers
