Oracle RAC on OEL5 packages missing

Postby parkerjohn03 » Sun Jul 08, 2012 6:19 pm

Hi all,

I am trying to install oracle 11GR2 RAC on my windows 7 workstation using VMware workstation 6.5

Guest OS Detail:
[root@rac1 ~]# uname -a
Linux rac1.localdomain 2.6.18-8.el5 #1 SMP Tue Jun 5 23:25:19 EDT 2007 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
[root@rac1 ~]#

Software: Oracle 11G Grid Infrastructure

Reference Link : http://oracle-base.com/articles/11g/ora ... rver-2.php

While installing oracle grid infrastructure (GI), i am getting following packages missing error. During my first installation, i tried to ignore them & went ahead to install GI But root.sh had failed. So cleaned up whole setup and have been trying to setup RAC from fresh.

During second time, I am getting same error. I got 5 disks of OEL5 . I have been trying to find each of the missing packages from OS DVD but They are not available on OS DVD. Couple of them are present but when i tried to install them, it is showing dependency errors and the depended packages are missing from DVD disk as well.

Would you please help how can i install missing packages and move forward with GI installation and RAC setup ?

Packages missing:

gcc-4.1.2
glibc-2.5.24
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3
elfutils-libelf-devel-0.125
glibc-devel-2.5
glibc-headers-2.5
gcc-c++-4.1.2
libaio-devel-0.3.106
libgcc-4.1.2
libstdc++-4.1.2
libstdc++-devel-4.1.2
sysstat-7.0.2
unixODBC-2.2.11
unixIDBC-devel-2.2.11

Thanks in advance...

Hi.

That installation article is quite old now. I do everything on VirtualBox now, so the equivalent VirtualBox installation article is more up to date. You might want to check the prerequisite section from that article, even though you aree using VMare.

http://oracle-base.com/articles/11g/ora ... requisites

Comments:

- I always use the DVD, not the CDs because finding the packages is a LOT easier.
- When you are adding missing packages it is easy to use a YUM repository, as explained in the link, because all the dependency checks are done for you.

Cheers

I tried automatic setup but it seems I am not able to connect with public yum oracle server from my VM host (RAC 1 & RAC2 node).

I tried to open a webpage to check whether I am having access to internet from vm host but it is not connecting to internet. Firefox already installed on both node but not sure how can i get internet access via VM hosts

[root@rac1 yum.repos.d]# yum list |grep firefox
No Repositories Available to Set Up
firefox.i386 1.5.0.9-10.el5.0.2 installed
firefox.x86_64 1.5.0.9-10.el5.0.2 installed
[root@rac1 yum.repos.d]#

[root@rac1 yum.repos.d]# wget http://public-yum.oracle.com/public-yum-el5.repo

Hi.

Then it appears your network configuration is a problem. Focus on that first.

Your public IP addresses for the nodes should be on the same subnet as your real network IP address.

Hi.

it looks to me like your IP address on your physical machine is 192.168.1.108, so the subnet of this machine is 192.168.1.0. As a result, your public, vip and can addresses should all use this subnet (192.168.1.0). Looking at your /etc/hosts file, I would expect something like this.

Code: Select all

#Public
192.168.1.101 rac1.localdomain rac1
192.168.1.102 rac2.localdomain rac2
#Private
192.168.2.101 rac1-priv.localdomain rac1-priv
192.168.2.102 rac2-priv.localdomain rac2-priv
#Virtual
192.168.1.103 rac1-vip.localdomain rac1-vip
192.168.1.104 rac2-vip.localdomain rac2-vip
#scan
192.168.1.105 rac-scan.localdomain rac-scan
192.168.1.106 rac-scan.localdomain rac-scan
192.168.1.107 rac-scan.localdomain rac-scan

I would expect that to be able to contact the internet provided you are using bridged connections.

Cheers

Hi,

Stuck with Networking :(. Need your help .

I have changed /etc/hosts file on both node as below. I couldn't use public IP mentioned in Tim's previous reply since those were available bu some other host. There were pingable ( 192.168.1.101/ 102) so i choos 192.168.1.111 / 112 for public IP.

#Public
192.168.1.111 rac1.localdomain rac1
192.168.1.112 rac2.localdomain rac2
#Private
192.168.2.101 rac1-priv.localdomain rac1-priv
192.168.2.102 rac2-priv.localdomain rac2-priv
#Virtual
192.168.1.103 rac1-vip.localdomain rac1-
192.168.1.104 rac2-vip.localdomain rac2-vip
#scan
192.168.1.105 rac-scan.localdomain rac-scan
192.168.1.106 rac-scan.localdomain rac-scan
192.168.1.107 rac-scan.localdomain rac-scan

Now, After these change, i rebooted both VM node. While booting up OS, It was throwing below error messages for eth0 but status was showing "OK" .

RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument

I tried to resolve this issue by changing NETMASK=255.255.255.0 to NETMASK=255.255.255.255 into /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 & eth1 configuration files. then rebooted node again. This time it is throwing below error.

RTNETLINK answers: Network is unreachable

My requirement is to connect with internet from VM node so i can use yum to install missing packages. I have all full version OEL5 (5 disks ) available into one DVD disk but the required Packages is not there. How can I find those missing packages for 11GR2 GI ? This will eliminate this networking issue.

Any help highly appreciate.

Hi.

1) Your subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0.

2) You need to change your networking to reflect the IP addresses in the /etc/hosts file. Simply changing the /etc/hosts file does not alter your network settings. It is just used for name resolution. You need to reset the network settings for each network adapter in the VMs.

3) I assume you are still using bridged connections (in the VirtualBox VM definition) for the virtual network adapters.

Cheers

Hi Tim,

1) Yes, It is 255.255.255.0.

2) I did reset Network setting on both node. system->administrator->network , under that GUI, clicked on each ethernet and , Changed all settings accordingly.
Also changed /etc/hosts on both node. I don't find any option here to attach screenshot. if it is , i can upload my network configuration snapshot.

3) My both VM node are using Bridge connection option.

Bridged: Connect directly to physical network. ( checked)
Replicate Physical Network connection state ( Checked )

Thanks for your continuous help....

Hi.

That sounds fine. What is the contents of your "/etc/resolv.conf" file?

This is the content of file on both node.

[root@rac1 ~]# cat /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 192.168.1.1
[root@rac1 ~]#

I changed this entry from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.0 ( based on subnet) , rebooted both node and tried. It didn't work so i revert back to original one 192.168.1.1.

Thanks .....

Hi Tim,

Finally , I am able to connect with internet from VM nodes. Used Yum repository to install all missing prerequisite.

The issue was,I was just rebooting the VM node after changing the network configuration. If i could have restarted my phyical machine after network configuration changes, i could have resolved this issue. But finally everything looks good and will start GI installation.

Thank you for your continuous help..
