Oracle 11g Installation on Linux

Postby ponic » Sat Nov 10, 2012 10:24 am

Tim

I was following this link for 11g installation on Oracle Linux which is installed on Virtual Box
http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g ... inux-5.php

During the installation I got the error

Code: Select all

TNS lost contact
.

After installation when I tried sqlplus I got error command not found.

How can I resolve these issues?

Thanks

Hi.

During the installation? I would only expect to see an error like that during the database configuration step I guess.

1) If the installation completed, but with the failure of the database creation, then you can create a new database using the DBCA.

2) If the installation didn't complete, then clean up the existing installation, do a software-only installation, then run the DBCA manually.

As always, check you have completed the prerequisites correctly before you start the installation. :)

Cheers

Yes I did see that error during database configuration. What is the reason for this?

1) If the installation completed, but with the failure of the database creation, then you can create a new database using the DBCA.

Installation was completed, got Finish screen. How can I invoke DBCA?

2) If the installation didn't complete, then clean up the existing installation, do a software-only installation, then run the DBCA manually.

I did run yum install oracle-validated and I have set all parameters as well.

Hi.

I can't tell you why you got the error. There could be a number of reasons. You can try and create the database against using the DBCA. Provided your profile is set correctly, you should be able to do this as follows.

Code: Select all

$ dbca

Tim

Before I do DBCA, I would like to ask another question

In order to resolve the issues I did a bit of googling and I could resolve this issue ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact

Code: Select all

http://amardeepsidhu.com/blog/2011/05/18/ora-12547-tns-lost-contact/

Then I did sqlplus and got the following

Code: Select all

SQL> startup
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters
LRM-00109: could not open parameter file '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/dbs/initDB11G.ora'
SQL>

So should I proceed with

Code: Select all

DBCA?

Thanks

Hi.

Yes. It doesn't look like your DB creation went very well if the SPFILE hasn't even been created. :)

Running DBCA did the trick.

Thanks a lot Tim, you are amazing.
