configure Oracle RAC on Vmware server

Hi,
I am following the oracle-base document to install Oracle RAC 11g on linux using vmware.
My configuration is :
Vmware server
Centos as linux os
Oracle 11g

When I arrive to the last step : run root.sh on both nodes, I run it successfuly on node 1 but on node 2 it crash then node 1 crash too !!!
any idea why ?

Hi.

No idea. The first question I would ask is why are you using CentOS? It is not a supported OS. If you use Oracle Linux it is free and supported. You can do most of the prerequisites automatically on this distribution.

If the root.sh fails this is usually down to a configuration issue or sometimes because the VMs are under-specced. Make sure you've allocated enough CPU and memory to the VMs. Also check the config.

Hi tim,
the installation prerequites was at least 2Gbytes of memory for each node, I allocated only 1.5 Gbytes for each. Hope that is the problem because I am upgrating ma machine soon.

About Centos, It was the first OS shown in my recherche on google, so I download it and it is quite good for me so far.

About Oracle Linux, When I learned about Oracle VM months ago, I see that It was quite difficult than installing Vmware and the linux OS by myself.

Hi.

1) If this is an 11gR2 RAC installation, then 2G is *very* small. I always use 4G per VM, as mentioned in my article. If it is 11gR1, then 2G is fine.

2) Oracle Linux has nothing what so ever to do with the virtualization you use. You should use Oracle Linux for your VMs because it is supported and free and you will not get some of the problems people report with CentOS. There are some bits of the Oracle installation that need workarounds for CentOS, but work fine on RHEL and Oracle Linux. It doesn't matter which virtualization product you use, you can still use Oracle Linux as the guest OS.

3) When you talk about Oracle VM, you should remember that this is a different product to Oracle VM VirtualBox, or just VirtualBox for short. VirtualBox is even easier to use than the VMware products in my opinion. You can see how I use it here:

1 - Yes, I am using Oracle 11gR2. my upgarded machine is only 8gbytes RAM. I will try to put 3Gbytes on each node next time.

2 - Thank you for your helpfull advice about Oracle linux. I am visiting Oracle site to get it.

3 - This is interesting. I will review your document to see how to use VirtualBox instead of Vmware
