Over the years I’ve written loads of stuff about consuming and publishing web services directly from the database. I’ve been doing quite a bit of this at work recently and I realised how difficult it is to find all the pieces, since they are spread across multiple articles, spanning multiple databaseย versions. In an attempt to give a single point of entry I’ve written this very brief article.
It’s really more of a links page. ๐
If you are new to the idea of using the database for web services, it might come as a surprise what you can do without having to turn to the dark side (middleware). ๐

Update: This is new on my website though. ๐
Hi, Tim
Great summary/collection – always a good idea with a “master” article for a “theme” ๐
For consuming both SOAP and REST web services, have you tried APEX_WEB_SERVICE api as alternative to the other methods?
I’ve used UTL_HTTP, HttpUriType, UTL_DBWS and JPublisher for consuming, but it looks to me like those aren’t updated much now a days – future enhancements I think (just guessing) probably are more likely to happen in APEX_WEB_SERVICE package. (Which if you like can be used just for webservice consumption even if you don’t have or plan to make a single APEX application ๐
(Shameless plug: My Kscope14 presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/KimBergHansen/oracle-36496025 – it is just on consuming, though, I have not yet had cause to try publishing web services ๐
Thanks for your great articles – I’ve used a couple in the presentation as well…
Regards
Kim
Kim: Funnily enough, I have an article on APEX_WEB_SERVICE in the works. When it’s complete it will be added to this article. ๐
