Is it possible to install Oracle Linux6 Server on an existing RHEL 5 Server without using any kind of virtualising Software?
I think this is a strange question being asked. The question came from a client. And, i never heard of such thing.
I heard such thing is somehow possible with Solaris Zone or build virtual machines using RHEL Virtualising Server (installed on existing RHEL).
I wonder if they mean one of the following:
1) Upgrade from RHEL5 to Oracle Linux6... There are documented ways to convert from RHEL to Oracle Linux. Once you have converted it seems conceivable that an upgrade from OL5 to OL6 would be possible, but I would suggest this is a bad idea. Much better to start clean and do a "good job" of the migration.
2) Is a machine currently running RHEL5 capable of running Oracle Linux 6. The answer to that would almost certainly be yes, provided it didn't have any really funky hardware that is not supported by the RHEL6/OL6 distribution.
