In today’s video we’ll take a look at the two sections of a database build that people often use a GUI for. The software installation using the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI), and the database creation using the Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA).
I recently wrote a post called Why no GUI installations anymore? I was surprised at how much comeback I got from that. This video isn’t a tutorial, but more of a taster to let people who are new to the subject see what they could be doing, rather than clicking buttons. 🙂
Today’s video takes a look at using Multitable Inserts, which allow an INSERT … SELECT to create rows in multiple destination tables. If you’ve not heard of them, don’t be surprised as they are really new, having only been introduced in Oracle 9i. 🙂
The stars of today’s video are a pitch-perfect choir made up of Debra Lilley, Scott Spendolini, Danny Bryant and Michael Rainey, who are collectively the hottest ticket in town. I have it on good authority they can be booked for weddings, bar mitzvahs and funerals. Incidentally, all four have made appearances in previous videos, which I think makes this their official comeback performance.
This came up in conversation a few days ago, so I thought it was worth resurrecting this demo. It doesn’t really matter what tech stack you use, the idea is still the same.
Good API design is not as simple as you might think, and making sure you pass back relevant information, like URLs for navigating through the services and maybe even service documentation links can make things a lot clearer.
