You can't use duration when backing up the archivelogs.

RMAN> BACKUP DURATION 5:00 DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG;

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03002: failure of backup plus archivelog command at 12/11/2007 08:26:02
RMAN-03003: command not implemented yet: DURATION with BACKUP PLUS ARCHIVELOG

DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE must be set before DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST, so in your example it's backwards. Result would be error message.

Hey Tim - great info

At the end of the article I see;

Managing Backup Duration and Throttling, but nothing is mentioned of Throttling only Duration, am I missing something?

Hi.

I must have been a bit eager to finish the article. :) I've added the throttling stuff now also.

Cheers
