Converting Documents to Highlighted HTML using Oracle Text…

I had a question on my forum about converting documents stored in BLOBs to HTML with highlighted search terms. On reading this my instant reaction was, “I don’t have a clue!”, but it’s actually quite easy using the “CTX_DOC.MARKUP” procedure. Here’s a simple example:

  1. Tim,
This is definitely a hot button for users. However, Oracle does a terrible job rendering .doc & .pdf files in HTML format for highlighting purposes. Have you seen experienced the same?

  2. I only tried it with simple documents and those worked fine.

I guessed it might not be too hot as the documention says they don’t guarantee the quality of the rendering. Then again, I’ve seen some pretty dodgy PDF->HTML conversions from Google, and they’re usually on the ball 🙂

    Cheers
